Motorcycle sales to hit 1.2 M in 4 years |

Domestic motorcycle sales will likely hit 700,000 by the end of this year and up to 1.2 million by 2012, a significant improvement from sales of only 549,000 in 2007, the Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association Inc. (MDPPA) said.
The Association, during the recent public hearing on the draft 2008 Investment Priorities Plan (IPP), however, said sales targets may not be achieved if the government would choose not to include the motorcycle manufacturing industry from the 2008 IPP.
The Board of Investments, under its draft 2008 IPP, has excluded motorcycle assembly among the list of activities entitled to full incentives from government.

"It's a shame to apprehend someone for not using his helmet and yet our own motorcycle traffic enforcers don't have one. It looks like we're violating the same regulations that we are trying to enforce," the MMDA chief said.

As gas prices are rising, so, too, are motorcycle sales. But while the idea of riding a motorcycle to work to save money on gas is appealing, buying one is not something to rush into, experts advise.
Do some homework on the different bikes out there, take a California Highway Patrol-approved motorcycle safety course to learn the basics of riding and look into insurance rates before you buy, experts advise.
While a bike can save you on gas costs, don't look for insurance savings in that the premiums for a motorcycle that is suitable for commuting to work will be comparable to the cost of auto insurance. Not only that, but insurance rates can be much higher for a motorcycle if the policy involves a high-performance bike and a young, unmarried man.
